If you are looking for a vibrant artistic community, look no further than North Wexford and Gorey – its artistic hub.
Whether you are looking for links to the past from the architecture of its most historic buildings including St. Michaels, etc. to the Fringe Summer Festival or Gorey Little Theatre – Gorey has a world of Arts second to none.
Gorey Little Theatre has developed a purpose built Theatre on Pearse Street. Being home to the Gorey Musical Society it also stages the Summer Play during July and August in addition to hosting the Drama Festival each year. Live Opera performances are offered on the big screen with a full season on offer from movies@gorey if that floats your boat.
North Wexford also has a very active Art Circle and they annually exhibit.
A recent innovation in the Art World has been the development of Gorey School of Art. Recognised both nationally and internationally, Gorey School of Art is at the forefront of the development of the arts in Gorey.
Gorey School of Art has been offering quality education programmes for over a decade with its FETAC education course provider, Gorey Community School. With its full-time courses based in the Gorey Business Park in Ramstown, Gorey School of Art now offers qualifications at various levels, with active plans for a new third level degree being progressed. Outside of these respected courses, GSA is also actively developing an annual exhibition programme. Couple this with its existing artist residency programme, free public seminars/workshops and plans for a creative kids clubs, GSA will certainly get your creativity juices flowing.
With the house of story telling at Ar mBreacha in Ballyduff and an active Photo Club the Arts is very much alive.
Hopes are high that the historic Market House, which is currently vacant will be developed as a centre for the arts over the coming years.
It is the focal point of the Gorey Market House Craft and Design Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend with a focus on quality national and international craft workers and designers.
Using the Civic Offices and VEC premises on the Avenue to stage some of the exhibitions the festival is recognized by the Craft Council of Ireland.
Of course it isn’t only just exhibitions as the Town buzzes with activities for all the family.
