Lunch with the Chamber @ Joannes April 2012
EFFECTIVE NETWORKING
Lunch with the Chamber in April was held in Joanne’s Restaurant where Pat Kelly and his staff looked after the Chamber members superbly.
The guest speaker was Angela Tynan, Manager of Nutgrove Enterprise Centre who spoke about the benefits of Effective Networking. Our sincere thanks to Wexford County Enterprise Board for sponsoring the session.
Her three rules for effective networking are:
- Longer conversations with fewer people. Don’t try to meet everyone in the room, focus on the people you want to meet and spend quality time with them.
- Listen to what the other party is saying.
- Refer any businesses you know that may be of interest to the other party. It both looks good and improves your credibility.
Three things not to do:
The Three A’s
- Abundance – Don’t try to meet everyone, you won’t and it is simply ineffective.
- Avoidance- Ensure that you engage with people from the moment you enter the room.
- All about Me – Don’t talk about yourself and your personal life; keep it on a business level only.
Summarising, prepare well in advance on what to do with a “Who I am” and “What I do” remembering always that networking is “Making a connection with another for your mutual benefit”.
Over 25 Chamber members were booked in for this session and everyone found it beneficial with many finding new business links which they will use into the future.
