Build Your Business May 2012
Another highly successful Build your Business meeting took place in Gorey Business Park on Friday 04th May 2012. Shalini Sinha of Forward Movement was the guest speaker and delivered a very interesting talk on "Creating Confidence and Change in Your Life". A synopsis of her talk can be found below.
"Happiness not a product – something you get and have. It’s a bi-product – the inevitable result of a perspective or way of thinking.
I help people to gain a clear perspective, to see themselves, their situation, and the changes they want to make clearly, so that happiness can become apparent in each moment.
The joy of life does not come from finally arriving somewhere, but from simply being somewhere, right now. When the joy of life is not currently apparent to us, it is not because it is not available to us but because other things have come up to distract our attention and we are not noticing it. A change in perception can bring it back to us at any moment.
Creating a change in one’s perception can be a process, but always results in a change in one's behaviour and therefore a change in the outcomes we experience.
We draw on a confidence when we see ourselves clearly: who we were born to be. When we feel we ‘lose’ our confidence, it is actually because we have lost track of an accurate picture of who we are. It is always a result of things that have happened to us, not who we are. Re-accessing our confidence is about regaining a positive and powerful picture of ourselves and clearly understanding what we’ve been through.
As business owners, much of our attention gets drawn into planning for the future – our next move, the next step or phase. We are very involved with creating things, achieving things, and focusing on results that might come. Peace of mind and happiness in one's life comes from being in the present moment. A balance is needed between the focus of our work and a focus on the present moment. We got to practice some of this during the talk.
Change is created by taking action. In Indian philosophy, both ‘action’ and ‘non-action’ are actions because both lead to a result. Sometimes solving the next problem isn’t about doing more (getting more done), but about doing less... gain peace of mind and clear perspective. Balancing our life with both ‘actions’ and ‘non-actions’ leads to greater personal happiness and success."
