Gorey has been announced as Ireland’s first ever ‘Digital Town’ by the IEDR – the national organisation responsible for registering and managing .ie domain names.
The ‘Digital Town’ initiative will highlight the benefits and possibilities of the internet and celebrate the digital achievements of a local town.
Gorey was chosen for its achievements in cultivating a truly digital environment in the town, and for its ongoing successes in fully embracing digital for its residents and for local business.
By showcasing our efforts to a national audience, Gorey will inspire Irish towns to begin their journey to becoming fully digital.
Throughout October, working with Wexford County Council, The Hatch Lab and Gorey Chamber of Commerce, the IEDR will plan and oversee a number of initiatives aimed at showcasing Gorey and developing additional digital skills and know-how for people and organisations in Gorey.
Working with a team of digital experts in the areas of website development, digital skills training and e-commerce, we will undertake a selection of digital engagements. Examples include:
Delivering a comprehensive digital health check (as part of our OPTIMISE Programme) for local food company, Wild About
Capturing product photography for the Kitchen Restaurant to use on its website and across all of its digital assets
Delivering an email marketing workshop for Gorey fashion boutiques and many more.
This work will culminate in the official launch and celebration of Internet Day 2018 in Gorey on 25 October in the town centre – Civic Square, The Avenue.
The IEDR will host the official launch and celebration in the Digital Dome on Internet Day at 10am, where CEO David Curtin will deliver a short address, followed by a discussion on ‘The Digital Town’ with a panel of local and national business experts.
From 11am-3pm, in the IE Domain Registry Digital Dome there will be a team of leading digital experts who will provide advice and answer questions from business owners, community groups and citizens on all matters digital and technology.
